Who you like best:Helen or Penelope?

The two epic written by Homer are both about love and sacrificing. There is still difference on the two.Helen of Troy is a story of a boy who is under a prophecy, Paris. The prophecy is that when he lives the trojans will die. Upon his birth he is left on the mountain but there is a sheperd who took care of him. He went to Troy to fight, it is a tradition during those times, through that Cassandra recognized Paris. King Priam and Hecuba welcome their son even though they knew of the prophecy. King Priam commanded Paris to go to Sparta. From Sparta Paris meet Helen who will soon be the queen of Sparta. They had fallen in love with each other. Helen helped Paris to get out of Sparta and return to Troy but Helen can't face tomorrow without Paris. So, she go with Paris and because of thier love Trojan war took its place and before the end of Trojan war Paris,Achilles and Hector died. Spartans make a Trojan Horse, an idea of Odysseus, they will let Trojan believe that it was a peace offering but the fact is that there are soldiers inside the horse waiting to attack them. After the war many Trojans died.

Odyssey is a story of a wise king, Odysseus, he left his land to help the Spartans. He formulated the Trojan Horse on his mind and his plans had succeeded. He go to the coast and promounce that Spartans succeded because of his intelligence. When Poseidon,god of the sea, heared this he become angry because Poseidon had sent a sea serpent to eat the man ,saying the truth, whena amn is conviencing King Priam that it is an offering. When Odyssues is about to go home he arrived at Ogygia, the island of nymph Calypso, Nausicaa, Cyclops,Circe and the sirens. He had travel 10 years.When Odysseus was still searching on his way home his kingdom was filled with Penelope's suitors.Suitors wanted the wealth of Ithaca not because they love Penelope.He hed returned to Ithaca with the help of King Alcinous. Penelope had waited with patience.

If I were to compare the two leading female character I like Penelope's attitude and Helen's beauty. Penelope can take the pain that Odysseus was away for about 10 years but still she remains loyal and faithful to her husband,Odysseus, while Helen although she really isn't favor of Menelaus she should still be faithful to Menelaus. The moment that Helen see Paris she hadn't stop her feelings and ready to face any consequences just for her love on Paris.Helen seems to be the antagonist because she is the reason for the Trojan war and the reason why the two sons of Hecuba and King Priam died. She is the reason why her love died. She doesn't know how to sacrifice. If we were to love we need to sacrifice. It is a give and take process. Penelope's character is the real protagonist she patiently wait for Odysseus. The is the true love on matter how long if you really love the person you are willing to wait. She even do not even get mad on her suitors even though they are "palamunin" and disturbing their silent life.

See although the two epic are written by only one poet the flow of the story is different and the characters had different ways on expressing their thoughts and feelings...

The love that cause destruction

If I were Helen I would not go with Paris to Troy because I know Agamemnon and Menelaus. Imagine leaving before our wedding day for sure that they will really look for me. I'm matured enough to decide on my own and for the best of everyone. I know that my beauty is irresistible and because of this face I have, siblings fight with each other, kingdoms fought with kingdoms and men loves me. I'm not that ignorant that letting others suffers and die for our love. Love is a gift from God, sometimes we undergo trials for us to deeper our love to each other. I don't want to see others fight and die because of me. If I and Paris were really meant to be then there is a way that we two would have a chance to express our love with each other. A chance to love one another without limit and destruction.  The right time that was given to us by God. Besides true love knows how to wait, knows the right time and know the right person that God has set. A person whom I was free to love without people being hurt and die because of our love to each other. Not going with Paris to Troy doesn't mean that I don't love him. It is just that our love wouldn't be possible because me and Menelaus are expected o get married the day when Paris left. Love is all about sacrificing. Sacrificing our love with each other is a better choice than pursuing our love with each other yet seeing Trojans dying because of our love. Love will make its own way when the two of you are really meant to be. Even though I'm a daughter of Zeus I'm not numb and selfish. We can't get anything we want. Not every situation is under our control, sometimes it depends on the action we done that let us fall. Yes, I love Paris. Some may suggest fighting for your love but in situation like this?? Fighting for our love to each other will not always end in happily ever after. If Paris really loves me then he would go and leave me. To know that he is safe and sound is better than the two of us are together but seeing him fighting because of our love that could cause his death. Love has its best time and place maybe this time is not yet for us. I know that we will soon meet each other again and in that time our love for each other is accepted not only by King Priam and Trojans but also by Menelaus, Agamemnon, Cassandra and the Spartans. I know and so excited that these day will come. Even we are far from each other my love will always be the same. See you at the right time Paris.

A week to remember -the TUMCS 26th founding anniversary-

The founding anniversary of the Taytay United Methodist Christian School is celebrated on February 14-18, 2011. Our school had reached its 26th years. During the Field demonstration students from different levels performed and brought silence, amazement and laughter to the audience. It is the time wherein we will be performing the dance that we all had practiced but unfortunately we lose. Losing is created for us to be able to realize our mistakes and to remind us to do better. Losing is a part of the fight at least we had given our best and give a good fight to our competitors. Making use of our failures can lead us to success someday. Even though we lost at least we played and performed fair and square in the best that we can. So far as I had observed camaraderie was witness because even though we fought by team still friends cheer their friends in the other team just like the Davids who cheered Solomons and vice versa. There are some students who cheat. Since this is our last year in the walls of TUMCS we choose to keep quiet and just enjoy our last foundation week in the school. After all what happen I had realized that we should not take defeat seriously. Yes, it is hard to accept defeat but is it hard to set on your mind that someone cheated you. As a TUMCSian we are thought not to think negatively but to be optimistic. As what our school theme is we should do our very best for God's glory... In everything we do we do it for God and not for others so; we need to do every task with all our strength.
